Do you need to repeat injections? Yes is the answer. The interval to replace lip filler depends on genetics and lifestyle. Think about how many times you move your mouth every day. Suffice it to say more than you can count. These repeated movements over time cause product absorption.
Filler consists of hyaluronic acid. It is a natural occurring substance in our facial tissues. It integrates with our existing tissue. It absorbs as we move our lips. Like any skin care therapy, it will need repeated. This means you will need injections every 6 to 12 months.
Lip injection recovery is fairly quick, which is one of the reasons the procedure is such a favorite. You’ll likely notice some swelling and possibly some bruising around your lips for a day or two after your appointment.
You can help with any swelling after your visit by gently applying a cold compress for 15 minutes at a time. Avoiding blood thinning substances such as alcohol or anti-inflammatory drugs helps too. Acetaminophen and the natural supplement arnica will keep you comfortable and speed your healing process along.
Lip Injection Pre-Visit Instructions
Stop all blood thinners. This includes: vitamin E, aspirin, advil, anti-inflammatories, alcohol, omega-3, ginko, and St. John’s Wort. Stop 4 to 5 days prior to injections.
Avoid the following products 2 days prior to your visit: Retin- A, retinoids, or similar vitamin A compounds, harsh scrubs or exfoliating products, or bleaching creams.
We suggest taking Arnica tablets 3 days prior to lip injections to prevent bruising.
If you have a history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) on your face, make sure you inform us.
We recommend scheduling your appointment 1 to 2 weeks prior to a special event as bruising is possible with everyone.
Avoid dental procedures 2 weeks pre-filler.
Lip Injection Post-Visit Instructions
Avoid extreme temperatures of heat for 24-48 hours post therapy (i.e. Jacuzzi, hot showers, extreme sun).
Use Arnica gel or Arnica tablets to help with bruising.
Wait 2 weeks for full results from lip filler.
Do not exercise for 24-48 hours after therapy.
If swelling and bruising occurs, use cold compresses or ice packs to reduce swelling.
Avoid excessive touching or massaging the treated areas for 24 hours.
Avoid dental procedures 2 weeks post-filler.
